Viz Media pushed through some changes this month when it comes to its digital Weekly Shonen Jump magazine as it shifted from the already cheap 99-cent installments to being free for new chapters while back chapters are available at a $2 a month subscription rate. When that change happened with its expansion of new titles, that’s also impacted the older model of the Jump Start. For the last few years, they’d run the first three chapters of new series debuting in the Japanese magazine at the same time and then would gauge which ones made sense to do bigger runs with in English based on popularity and interest.
Now, according to ANN, the plan is to drop the Jump Start initiative in general and use the resources to bring on more regular series going forward. No titles were talked about in regard to this at the moment but it’s definitely good news for fans looking for more variety in their manga from the magazine.
