The anime adaptation of the Kaguya-sama: Love is War manga from Aka Akasaki is set for a Japanese January 12th, 2019 premiere and now another distributor is getting in on the game. Australian streaming service AnimeLab has revealed that they’ll be handling the show for the season, which comes after Aniplex USA set the series up for North American audiences on Hulu, Crunchyroll, and Funimation. They’ll all begin streaming it on January 12th and will bring out their own announcements and details in the coming days. The only real detail separating the three will be their regional availability.

Mamoru Hatakeyama is directing based on the series composition and supervision by Yasuhiro Nakanishi. Yuuko Yahiro is handling the character designs and A-1 Pictures is behind the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Aoi Koga as Kaguya Shinomiya
  • Makoto Furukawa as Miyuki Shirogane
  • Konomi Kohara as Chika Fujiwara
  • Ryōta Suzuki as Yū Ishigami
  • Yumiri Hanamori as Ai Hayasaka

The manga began in Miracle Jump in early 2015 and moved to Young Jump in 2016. The property has ten volumes out as of June 2018.

Plot Concept: Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane are two geniuses who stand atop their prestigious academy’s student council, making them the elite among elite. But it’s lonely at the top and each has fallen for the other. There’s just one huge problem standing in the way of lovey-dovey bliss-they’re both too prideful to be the first to confess their romantic feelings and thus become the ‘loser’ in the competition of love! And so begins their daily schemes to force the other to confess first!
