With the Titans TV series underway on the DC Universe streaming service and Doom Patrol moving right along with an early 2019 debut, the reveal previously of a Swamp Thing project has me hugely excited considering where the comics have gone over the years. With the main casting having wrapped up for the core group, we’ve gotten some supporting characters and now the villain has been revealed. The latest addition is for a recurring role where Ian Ziering will take on the part of Daniel Cassiday who becomes Blue Devil. Ziering is known for his early work on Beverly Hills 90210 and leaning into the camp with Sharknado.
Cassidy is described as “stuntman turned movie star Daniel Cassidy, who became semi-famous after playing the demonic Blue Devil. But now, eight years later, Cassidy finds himself living out his days in frustration, pining for his former fame while on a collision course with destiny.”
The project has Mark Verheiden writing it with Gary Dauberman and both will serve as executive producers as well.
The cast includes Crystal Reed as Abigal Arcane, Andy Bean as Alec Holland, Derek Mears as Swamp thing, Maria Sten as Liz Tremayne, Jeryl Prescott as Madame Xanadu, Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen as Maria Sunderland, Will Patton as Avery Sunderland, Henderson Wade as Matt Cable, Kevin Durand as Jason Woodrue, and Ian Ziergin as Blue Devil.
The production for this comes from the Atomic Monster folks, which is James Wan’s company, in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Plot Concept: Swamp Thing centers on CDC researcher Abby Arcane. When she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all!
