With the theatrical release set for the Mirai From the Future film, all eyes turn toward the home video release now in Japan. VAP is handling the distribution for it and has set their plans for it. The film is getting a January 23rd, 2019 release with a standard edition DVD priced at 3,800 yen and a standard edition Blu-ray at 4,800 yen. There’s also a special edition Blu-ray priced at 7,800 yen. While the regular editions come with a booklet, the special edition has two additional booklets, the promos and trailers, footage from Cannes, an interview with Hosoda, a cast interview, and a roundtable piece included with it.

Hosoda wrote and directed the film with Hiroyuki Aoyama and Ayako Hata serving as the animation directors. Studio Chizu has handled the animation production and we’ve got a brief teaser for it below.

The Japanese cast includes Moka Kamishiraishi as Kun-chan, Haru Kuroki as Mirai-chan, Yoshiko Miyazaki as Grandmother, Gen Hoshino as Father, Kōji Yakusho as Grandfather, Kumiko Asou as Mother, and Mitsuo Yoshihara as Mysterious Man.

Plot Concept: When four-year-old Kun meets his new baby sister, his world is turned upside down. Named Mirai (meaning “future”), the baby quickly wins the hearts of Kun’s entire family. As his mother returns to work, and his father struggles to run the household, Kun becomes increasingly jealous of baby Mirai… until one day he storms off into the garden, where he encounters strange guests from the past and future – including his sister Mirai, as a teenager. Together, Kun and teenage Mirai go on a journey through time and space, uncovering their family’s incredible story. But why did Mirai come from the future?
