Chi’s Sweet Adventure Episode #49 Anime Review

3 min read

Chris tracks Blackie

What They Say:
Chi is a sweet playful kitten, always full of energy. She gets milk from Yohei, and is relaxing at home, nice and full. As she searches around the house for something exciting, she comes across Yohei walking with a handful of rubber balls. The balls bounce everywhere as he drops them, and Yohei and Chi can’t get more excited. The day ends with Chi and the family making a great memory together.

Flights of fancy dominated the previous episode with the kittens having a shared dream of getting to the clouds and experiencing a new world there. The dynamic between the four is good and there’s a lot of fun with it but it all works so much better when it’s just Chi and Come-Come or some other combination of two. This episode puts the two together as Come-Come is practicing his stealth hunting skills and surprises Chi. But when they see Blackie walking through the park they both get the evilest look in their eyes as they decide that Blackie would be excellent to track as prey. And that does work as a nice way to show just how much they’ve learned from him.

We’ve seen a lot in just how hard it is for Chi to learn a lot of these skills from Blackie while Come-Come comes by it a lot more naturally as a street cat. Chi’s innocence is definitely fun and that plays into their hunt of him here as they do their best to get as close to him as possible. Blackie, being a proper adult, catches on pretty quickly to all of this and just lets them do it to help grow their confidence some. Of course, the two take things further in how they torment him and that leads to a lot of great wild takes out of both of them as they make faces at him. What the show does as it goes on is showing how Blackie marks his territory, which is a new thing to Chi but she’s definitely interested in this and other ways that Blackie does his marking.

`In Summary:
The show handles a lot of this in a fun way but it also tosses some challenges into the mix, such as the dog being walked that they try to avoid as well as crossing Yohei’s path. Blackie’s journey every day as the “boss” would be fun enough to watch on its own and getting some of that through the eyes of the others, especially some of the special treatment he gets, is definitely amusing. But even in all of this we see how Blackie takes care of them, which they need since they cause plenty of trouble in general and toward each other.
