The winter & spring 2018 anime series Soul Hunter is having its home video release plans handled by NBC Universal Japan and they’ve set a solid schedule for it. We’re catching up on some artwork we missed recently and have a look at the eighth and final volume of the series that landed on October 28th, 2018. With twenty-four episodes across the two seasons, it began on March 28th, 2018 with three episodes per disc with eight discs total. Both formats are listed as limited editions with the DVDs priced at 8,500 yen and the Blu-ray’s at 9,000 yen.
The show has Katsuki Aizara as the director working from the series composition by Natsuko Takahashi. Yoshimitsu Yamashita is handling the character designs with C-Station working the animation.
The Japanese cast includes Kensho Ono as Taikoubou, Tomoaki Maeno as Bunchuu, Takahiro Sakurai as Sibuxiang, Makoto Furukawa as Nataku, Yuuichi Nakamura as Youzen, KENN as Kou Tenka, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Hiko Kou, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Shinjin Fugen, Kousuke Toriumi as Shinkouhyou, Yoko Hikasa as Dakki, Daisuke Namikawa as Chuuou, and Nobuhiko Okamoto as Tenkun Ou.
This is intended to reboot it with a new cast and start from the beginning once again. The manga originally ran back from 1996 to 2000 for twenty-three volumes, which Viz Media released in full here. The anime adaptation under Soul Hunter came out in 1999 that was originally licensed and released by ADV Films. Discotek Media is the current license holder for that twenty-six episode series.
Plot Concept: When his clan is wiped out by a beautiful demon, young Taikobo finds himself in charge of the mysterious Hoshin Project. Its mission: find all immortals living in the human world and seal them away forever. But who do you trust–and whose side are you really on–when you’ve been trained to hunt demons by a demon?
