The Weekly TV Discussion Post For November 18th, 2018

My TV viewing schedule has been wonky since October when my eldest daughter started working and our “family time” shows got pushed until we can watch them together. That’s about to get more complicated as my other daughter is about to start working and I’m going to find myself in a place where I simply go and watch all the things on my own schedule and let them catch up when they can. Welcome to adult life, kiddoes!

That has left me not watching too much recently combined with some of my shows not being on, so it’s been a bit frustrating. I’ve kept up with Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow as good fun stuff and most of my sitcoms as well, though this week was problematic with some other events like country music awards shows keeping them off the air.

So that’s left me to dig into other projects for a bit to get into. One of those is the Shetland series, which had its fourth season put onto the local PBS recently but completely misflagged in the listings and without the first couple of episodes available. So I said to hell with it and luckily enough it was on sale on iTunes. I love the show for its look at the land, the people, and just the view of the whole location. The stories are great as they deal with various crimes and all but it’s the combination that really works, especially with a great lead and a laid back approach.

I’ve held off on watching much on Netflix recently simply because of time constraints but I also found that I craved something new so I finally started watching Altered Carbon. I’m really digging its approach as I hit the halfway mark and want a lot more of it and to explore this world more. Definitely already looking forward to the second season.

I’ve also been doing some dips into the past. The first is a more recent one as the first season of The League was on the cheap on iTunes. I love this raunchy little comedy of whackjobs and how they live and go beyond the pale.

The other is I’ve been doing a lot of background watching of Friends in bursts. I was part of that whole live watching generation thing when this show was huge and moving through the second season has been fun. Just the sheer number of cameos and guest appearances are surprising when revisiting it since not seeing it since it ended after ten seasons.

Here’s hoping for a good week of new shows and a chance to binge some quality TV over the turkey day weekend!
