The spring 2016 anime series Bonobono continues on and has had its home video release material set where the short-form series is certainly getting a decent roll out. The tenth volume was previously scheduled for a December 21st, 2018 release and we now have the larger sized artwork for both formats for the release. The release is one where it’s not surprising that it’ll get separate DVD and Blu-ray editions in both regular edition form – though this edition the priced dropped by 1,300 yen for each format compared to the previous volume:
- BD: 3,500 yen
- DVD: 2,500 yen
The property had an anime adaptation back in the mid 90′s where it worked a fifteen-minute run time to tell its humor. The original manga from Mikio Igarashi has been in publication since 1986 and as part of its thirtieth anniversary will be getting this new adaptation. With forty volumes worth of material out there, there’s more than enough to work with.
The show was directed by Hidenori Yamaguchi based on the series composition by Mitsuka Hirota. The series was animated by studio Eiken and the Japanese cast includes Fukuko Yukimiyama as Bono Bono, Aya Ogata as Chipmunk, Shinpei Takano as Raccoon and Yūki Kurofuji as Fishing Cat.
The rock band Monobright performed the opening theme song for the series which is called “bonobono Suru, aka Do the bonobono.”
Plot concept: A sea otter and his friends, a raccoon, and squirrel, live and play together in the forest.
