With the Titans TV series underway on the DC Universe streaming service and Doom Patrol moving right along with casting for 2019, the reveal previously of a Swamp Thing project has me hugely excited considering where the comics have gone over the years. Now, the latest bit of casting has been revealed with Will Patton joining the cast as Avery Sunderland. With Virgina Madsen cast as the character’s daughter it should provide for some good material for the two actors to work with. Patton’s currently in Halloween and has had a solid run of TV and film roles over the years.
The character is described as:
“As its most prominent businessman, Avery Sunderland (Patton) serves as the de facto patriarch of his Louisiana hometown, always giving back to the community. His benevolent veneer, however, masks a ruthless determination to harness the power of the swamp for profit.”
The project has Mark Verheiden writing it with Gary Dauberman and both will serve as executive producers as well.
The cast includes Crystal Reed as Abigal Arcane, Maria Sten as Liz Tremayne, Jeryl Prescott as Madame Xanadu, Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen as Maria Sunderland, and Will Patton as Avery Sunderland
The production for this comes from the Atomic Monster folks, which is James Wan’s company, in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Plot Concept: Swamp Thing centers on CDC researcher Abby Arcane. When she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all!
