What They Say
Fourteen-year-old Kisaki Tachikawa has psychic powers. She works for PSI, a secret government agency that fights aliens. She’s in love with her partner Giniro, but PSI won’t allow operatives to get involved. Just when Kisaki thinks she may be getting closer to Giniro, she finds out she is to be transferred to California!

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Fortune Tiara, a 14-year-old girl by the name of Kisaki Tachikawa, and her partner, Fortune Quartz (real name Giniro Hashiba) are the members of a team called Mistress Fortune, who work for the secret government organization known as PSI. Their job is to use their psychic abilities to combat extraterrestrial beings known as EBEs. Kisaki’s powers are unrefined, while Giniro’s powers are potent, though he’s a pervert who is obsessed with Kisaki’s breasts. Though Kisaki is in love with Giniro, PSI doesn’t allow agents to become involved in each other’s personal lives. One day, Kisaki finds herself wishing that all other girls in the world would disappear to what she believes is a stuffed animal, only to find that it is, in fact, a powerful EBE, causing it to start rampaging in town. In fighting it, Kisaki is able to find her inner strength and come to grips with her feelings. The EBE’s powers are diminished and it gains the ability to talk to humans, so it is brought to live at PSI under the name EBE-ko.

In the next chapter, a strange EBE appears that shrinks the members of Mistress Fortune down and traps them in a jar, allowing them to become significantly close. However, just when things are looking, up for the pair, it turns out that Kisaki must go to America in order to partake in special experiments. Though Kisaki refuses at first, she agrees to go upon hearing that this research may help awaken Giniro’s mother, who has been in a coma for a long while. Though the two are forced to part on sad terms, Giniro uses his abilities to fly all the way to America, bringing things to a happy ending.

In the bonus chapters, we see EBE-ko work in order to become a member of high-class society, and the gender of Mistress Fortune’s ambiguous boss is called into question.

In Summary:
Though the love story being told here is a tad generic, the supernatural elements presented go a long way in spicing things up. The main characters are fairly enjoyable, particularly Giniro’s perverted habits, and they both undergo a good bit of growth throughout the book. It may not be anything special, but this volume certainly makes for an interesting read.
