“Chi Hisses”

What They Say:
Chi is a sweet playful kitten, always full of energy. She gets milk from Yohei, and is relaxing at home, nice and full. As she searches around the house for something exciting, she comes across Yohei walking with a handful of rubber balls. The balls bounce everywhere as he drops them, and Yohei and Chi can’t get more excited. The day ends with Chi and the family making a great memory together.

Watching Chi work through some playing and spending time with the family previously was definitely cute and fun. Chi’s lust for life and enjoyment of it is definitely one of the big draws of the series because it’s such a generally upbeat thing. With this episode, we shift outdoors once again and spend time with Blackie the Bear Cat. Chi’s education continues to be a fun part of the show overall and I’ve enjoyed watching her interactions with him and the others, to the point where even Come-Come has grown on me significant.

The focus this time around is on getting Chi to learn to hiss. This is important since how she presents in this form can make her seem bigger and more intimidating than she is otherwise, allowing for victory over an opponent. Of course, Blackie’s elaborate presentation bores her to tears and we know she’s a learn by doing kind of cat anyway. When she does really try to get into it and do it right, well, she’s not exactly intimidating even though she does try. It’s cute watching her get serious and mirror Blacki but struggles, such as farting instead of straightening her tail. Her further attempts play out about as you’d expect, such as trying to frighten a frog that instead just latches onto her face. You do have to give Chi credit for all that she tries to do as Blackie puts her through her paces and teaches her right.

`In Summary:
Some animals are hard to just see as threatening and Chi is definitely one of those, though she can pull a serious face when she needs to from time to time. When we get her and Come-Come together at the end with his street-smart life in his pocket he’s not exactly impressed by her. Nothing gets someone to step up like a little personal competition and it’s cute watching them together. Chi’s path to being a good cat that can handle the outside world is definitely going well overall, though her kitten-ish lifestyle keeps her from going all-in most of the time. Thankfully, as we see here at the end, Blackie’s definitely a great friend to have in such situations.
