The Weekly Movies Discussion Post For October 21st, 2018

2 min read

If there’s one thing that frustrates me about the start of the fall TV season it’s that it keeps me from getting to the movies as much as I’d like or catch up on things that I have at home. There’s just so many good serialized shows that I get into.

That said, some movie material did thankfully make it into my week as I made it to theater last week to see Smallfoot using Sinemia as I’m making my way to exiting the MoviePass service after being a part of it since 2011 or 2012. Smallfoot was cute and silly in all the right ways and was nicely acted even as the whole thing works fairly predictable material for kids, especially in the whole distrust of authority thing that they come into easily enough. It’s a brisk film at barely 90 minutes but it doesn’t linger or feel like it’s dull, which helps.

The big new movie that I did get this week was the Ant-Man and the Wasp steelbook from Best Buy. I buy very few physical releases but ones like this are always in my to-buy list since having a nice selection of steelbooks is “unique.” The film itself is one I can’t wait to revisit but I did take a gander the extras which has some nice stuff. While we get a fun bit of gag reel material I loved the minute or so of multiple takes and variations that Stan Lee did for his cameo scene in here. The guy just has the right kind of grin-inducing charisma for me.

Next weekend doesn’t have any new movies of note out for me to take in so I’m hoping either later in the week or next weekend to take in a few things, such as Venom or the Bad Times at the El Royale as I’m definitely curious for both.
