It’s been a crazy busy holiday weekend with a lot of things coming out of NYCC but also some interesting pieces out of Japan With an anime adaptation done way back in 2000 that was released domestically by Right Stuf, the word hit earlier this year that the franchise is getting another shot at things with the Boogiepop and Others light novel from Kouhei Kadono and Kouji Ogata getting an anime adaptation. Set as part of the winter 2019 season in January, the official site has now updated with a great new key visual below for it.  We also got a clean look at some of the character designs and how they’re being updated for the modern audience.

Shingo Natsume is directing it based on the series composition by Tomohiro Suzuki. Hidehiko Sawada is handling the character designs for it with Madhouse handling the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes Aoi Yuki as Toka Miyashita/Boogiepop and Saori Onishi as Nagi Kirima.

Seven Seas Entertainment has released the novel in English in print and digital.

Check out the official site and Twitter.

Plot Concept: There is an urban legend that children tell one another about a shinigami that can release people from the pain they may be suffering. This “Angel of Death” has a name: Boogiepop. And the legends are true. Boogiepop is real. When a rash of disappearances involving female students breaks out at Shinyo Academy, the police and faculty assume they just have a bunch of runaways on their hands. But Nagi Kirima knows better. Something mysterious and foul is afoot. Is it Boogiepop, or something more sinister…?
