What They Say:
The year is 1555, the middle of the Warring States period, and one young man holds on to a very big dream. That young man, known as an empty-headed fool, is none other than Oda Nobunaga. Enchanted by his dream, a certain young girl who admires Nobunaga swears that she will become his ninja one day. Nobunaga has one goal: to unify Japan by military might! Decorated by a colorful cast of characters, including the airheaded Kichou, the errand boy Hideyoshi, the tsundere Nene, the straight man Mitsuhide, and the half-dead Hanbei, this heavy-hitting wartime gag anime is about to begin!!

As the show wraps up some of the recent events with its season finale here, we get something that does what it needs to and largely leaves us wanting more. Nobunaga’s coming back home has set a few people off since there’s a lot to be said after recent events and Nagayoshi in particular is pretty upset after the loss of his father. There are some interesting moments here with how it unfolds since it deals with respect for the lord of the clan and the need to do what must be done, which lead to Nobunaga going up against Honanji, but nothing went as planned so there are issues to be had there. It’s a nicely emotional piece overall that lets it shift well for the final part with Chidori getting to talk to Nagayoshi about his father and what he did, though only in light form before she puts him in his place with a brief monologue that fits her perfectly with the growth she’s had over the run.

In Summary:
With a few nice little nods toward the end to showcase our two leads and what they’re thinking after all that’s said and done, it ends well with a bit of cuteness that is totally in character for the property. This season proved to be more of a struggle than I expected at times as it felt like it wasn’t as strong with the narrative and focused on so many characters to its own detriment as it lost sight of Chidori and Nobunaga, who are the heart and soul of the show. It continues to be a fun skewed look through history and all and I know to take it only so seriously but I really enjoy the dynamic that we get in general and an episode like this reaffirms why I’m hopeful there’s a fourth season as the two leads are just so nicely done.
