With production underway for Star Wars: Episode IX, we’ve had a fair bit of information from what’s going otherwise be a quiet production. We got the confirm that Billy Dee Williams is back and that Kerri Russell was involved in the project. We also got the welcome confirm of Greg Grunberg coming back with his small character from The Force Awakens which has a pretty extensive story in the Star Wars: Aftermath books that take place at the end of Return of the Jedi.

The latest for the J.J. Abrams flick is that Variety has learned that Matt Smith, recent of The Crown, has joined the production. There are no details on what kind of character he’ll be playing or any of the various sides that he could operate from.

The film is set for a December 19th, 2019 premiere with J.J. Abrams directing based on the script he co-wrote with Chris Terrio. The cast includes Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Billie Lourd as Lieutenant Connix, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Matt Smith, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Billy Dee Williams, as Lando Calrissian, Carrie Fisher.
