GintamaFeeling like it’s been angling toward this forever, the latest installment of Weekly Shonen Jump has revealed that the Gintama manga will be ending. Kicking off back in 2004 and with seventy-four volumes in Japan to date, it’s listed as having five more chapters that will have it wrapping up in September based on the current schedule. It began this current arc, the “Silver Soul” arc, back in 2016 with word then that it was going to wrap things up.

The manga by Hideaki Sorachi began its animated life back in 2006, first with a 201 episode series and then with a new 64 episode series a couple of years ago. Add in numerous specials and a pair of theatrical movies and there is a lot of material for the property and plenty more to adapt as the manga has been ongoing since 2003. There are currently over seventy published volumes in Japan as well as five light novels.

Plot concept: The values of the city of Edo suddenly changed when the aliens, called Amanto, invaded. In a world where anything goes, from aliens to motorbikes and even electric trains, a man known as the last samurai clings to his unchanging spirit. His name is Gintoki Sakata, a.k.a. Odd Jobs Gin. He’s reckless and irresponsible, but somehow he does what needs to be done in his own subtle way. The lifestyles of Gin and his companions will make you laugh, make you cry, and warm your heart!
