‘Galaxy Express 999’ TV Anime Getting New Subtitled Blu-ray Editions

2 min read

While fans have had issues with the Japanese release of the Galaxy Express 999 TV series for a few years, including the recent re-releases of the seven-volume series, Discotek Media is charting a different course for their release of it. This new release won’t be an SDBD release but rather a proper Blu-ray release using upscaled source materials that aren’t what Toei used for theirs. They’re looking to ensure that the film grain stays proper with it and it’ll come with the TV movie specials as well. The first set, with date and pricing to be revealed, will have the first thirty-eight episodes in comparison to the Japanese sets that did sixteen episode sets.

Check out the Japanese promo for their editions.

Plot concept: In a distant future, Tetsuro is a human boy who wants his body replaced with a robotic one. This is possible, but to do so he has to reach the Immortal Planet onboard the space train Galaxy Express 999. Maetel, a beautiful and mysterious blonde woman dressed in Russian style, joins him in the long journey through space. Every episode sees our heroes arriving in a new planet’s space train station.
