‘Vinland Saga’ Anime Sets 2019 Plans

2 min read

Vinland Saga Volume 3It was revealed back in March that the anime adaptation of the Vinland Saga manga from Makoto Yukimura is in production from WIT Studio. In a since-deleted tweet that talks about his lack of mastery of Twitter, Yukimura provided a photo of the 21st volume of his manga that, presumably, had a wraparound that confirmed a 2019 debut for the anime itself, according to ANN. The 2019 plans was largely a given with an “at earliest” kind of mindset since WIT Studio has been working on Attack on Titan with the ramping up for Vinland Saga going on in the background as it moves into full production.

The manga has seen release in North America through Kodansha Comics, which has struggled in the omnibus hardcover format they were putting it out in to ensure it had a prestige feeling about it, but this is an adaptation that could really give it a huge and worthy boost. The manga has over five million copies in print across the twenty volumes released so far in Japan.

Plot Concept: The Viking invasion of London has reached a fever pitch, and Askeladd and Thorfinn rush to take part in the carnage! Their goal is the capture of Cnut, the son of King Sweyn Forkbeard and heir to the throne of Scandanavia and the Danelaw. But standing in their way is Thorkell, one of the Viking world’s most daring warriors. The defeat of a living legend will be a formidable test of Askeladd’s cunning and Thorfinn’s ruthlessness, and of their ability to set aside personal grudges and fell a common enemy!
