“Akkun’s Sleepover”

What They Say:
The childhood friends Akkun and Nontan are boyfriend and girlfriend. But Akkun is always saying ridiculously harsh things to Nontan as well as being cold with her and is frequently moody. But that’s just how Akkun expresses his love for Nontan. This is a high school love comedy about Akkun and Nontan, who doesn’t seem to care at all about how Akkun acts toward her.

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
After spending time with Matsuo the last time around, this one has a group event of sorts happening when everyone is together and there’s quite the downpour outside, which means a sleepover at Akkun’s. With the mothers already providing some good amusement, there’s just simple fun with basic chores and having the pairings together for a bit, especially since Nontan pushes Akkun’s buttons in some great ways – particularly when his mind wanders to her staying the night and just how it’s changed from when they were little. Of course, Akkun’s mom makes for some great moments here in past and present and again makes me just want a series focusing on the parents as adults.

In Summary:
My Sweet Tyrant has a fun episode where we do get some minor time with Katagiri and Matsuo but the real fun is on our two leads plus the parental side. I like seeing more of what the leads were like as kids and how Akkun’s views and interests in Nontan have grown over time, making for something that’s at least a bit more understandable and natural in a sense. It’s a good bit of fun and Akkun’s mom just leaves me grinning everytime she gets to be more than a background element.
