The second season of the anime adaptation of the 2012 manga series Sword Gai has gone live today with its July 30th, 2018 premiere date and Netflix is doing a little bit of promotion for it. Since they release so many shows each month they’re not exactly keeping up on showing off what they got unless it’s a real marquee program. But with the release of the series today they’ve got this taste of it out as the twelve episode season drops in its original Japanese language with English subtitles and with an English dub.

Takahiro Ikezoe is serving as the chief director working with Tomohito Naka as the director. Toshiki Inoue is on board for the series composition with Atsuki Nakajima handling the character designs. Production IG is on board for the production with DLE and LandQ studios listed.

The Japanese cast includes Yuuto Uemura as Gai Ogata, Yuuichirou Umehara as Seiya Ichijou, Yuuka Aisaka as Sayaka Ogata, Jouji Nakata as Amon Ogata,  Rina Satou as Kyouka Kagami,  Hiro Shimono as Marcus Lithos,  Tomokazu Sugita as Naoki Miki,  Toshihiko Seki as Takuma Miura,  Takaya Kuroda as Grimms, Michiko Neya as Aronisu, Kohei Murakami as Ariga I, Urara Takano as Yasuko Tanaka, Ayane Sakura as Midoriko, Takaya Hashi as Kazuma Matoba, Kenji Hamada as Tatsumi, Yu Shimamura as Mina Hiraya, Masaharu Satō as Kigetsu, Sumi Shimamoto as Kei, Kousuke Toriumi as Hakimu, Kazuyuki Okitsu as Kazumo, Ayumu Murase as Kuromaru, Haruka Shiraishi as Syouko, Maria Naganawa as Rie Matoba, Akane Fujita as Sayori, and Junichi Yanagita as Kagatsuka.

The series, from Toshiki Inoue and Osamu Kine, has six volumes that brought the first story to a close while the second series has three volumes out.

Plot concept: A woman died a suspicious death in the forest. Beside her, the sword-smith Amon finds a new-born boy with a tragic fate and takes him in. About 10 years later, this boy who is named Gai and who has become Amon’s apprentice, loses his right arm in an accident while making a sword. Amon decides to take a sword called “Shiryuu,” which is a sword with demonic powers that has been passed down for generations, and fashion it into an artificial arm for Gai. That was the beginning of it all…

The story of this boy, who has become one with a demonic weapon and is drawn into a cruel fate in which he must face countless battles, can be seen as either the story of “a beautiful weapon and an ugly person” or of “the cruelty of weapons and the beauty of humans.” This is a completely new world of comic noir.
