What They Say
The day of the battle with the Great One fast approaches. Can Zaryusu unite the lizardmen tribes before they’re all wiped from this earth? The Red Eyes have agreed to an alliance, but the Dragon Tusks will be trickier. They prize strength above all else-meaning Zaryusu will need to defeat their chief in combat before they’ll even think of hearing him out!

Content: (please note that content portions of this review contains spoilers):
Zaryusu may not be the leader for any of the Lizardman Tribes, but he does possess one of the Lizardmen’s Four Great Treasures, Frost Pain. Because of this, the Lizardmen of other tribes are willing to listen to what Zaryusu has to say. That and he manages to defeat Chiefs of other tribes in one-on-one combat.

What Zaryusu has to say about the impending attack hinges on everyone cooperating. Tough call given the various tribes recently fought brutal wars because of a food shortage. The only thing that saved all the tribes was the fewer mouths to feed after many warriors killed each other off in the war. Since then, food has continued to be scarce and to be cruel, another war against an outside force would only make it easier for the surviving Lizardmen to find food. It is a brutal reality in a culture that relies on hunting and doesn’t have a farming class to help with subsistence living.

Momonga finally makes his move on the day he threatened to attach the first Lizardman Tribe. Zaryusu convinced some of the Tribes to fight together as one, but it might not be enough. Momonga has put the command of his skeletal army in the hands of Cocytus, a very capable warrior that lives by the Samurai code. However, Momonga has told Cocytus that he is not allowed to fight directly in the war, he can only use his warriors and the single Elder Lich. Which side will be able to triumph? Or will it be a matter of how badly will the Lizardmen lose?

In Summary
I like this series, but just not in love with the Lizardmen Arc. It is somewhat interesting, but what I enjoy about this series is Momonga’s character and his interactions with his subordinates like Shalltear and Albedo. At this point, I would prefer to see the Lizardmen Arc wrap up and get back to adventuring around with Momonga and get back to the mystery behind Shalltear’s betrayal. Is there another human player like Momonga stuck in this world? Did some of the God Weapons from the video game get pulled into this world and end up in the hands of NPC’s?
