While Crackle may not be a service that most anime fans, or streaming viewers in general, think of as a place to get things it does have a niche carved out for it on several devices. Sony’s looking to try and expand their ad-supported service by selling some of the stake in it to a new partner to make it more competitive in a place that’s only becoming increasingly so – especially with Disney launching their own next year and the DC Comics based on launching in a few months with some interesting content coming its way.
According to the initial reporting on it, they’re not looking to sale or offload Crackle at this stage, though the shuttering of the Canadian incarnation wasn’t a great sign, but are hoping that a new partner in it could bring more content and a new approach to marketing and integration elsewhere beyond where it is now.
