After a winter theatrical showing in Japan, Bandai Visual recently scheduled the home video release for Maquia: When the Promised Flower feature film. It’s set for an October 26th, 2018 release and now they’ve got a nearly two-minute trailer out to promote the release and secure some preorders. There are four different editions for it:
- BD LE: 8,800 yen
- BD Reg: 4,800 yen
- DVD LE: 7,800 yen
- DVD Reg: 3,800 yen
Both regular and limited editions have the same on-disc features with the various news bulletins, trailers, and promos along with commercials. The limited edition has a bonus disc with 40 minutes of behind the scenes material and a 115-minute video storyboard. It also has an expanded deluxe booklet and a poster.
The film was written by Maki Okada and was her directorial debut with it arriving back in February 2018 in Japan. Yuriko Ishii handled the character designs with PA Works handling the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Manaka Iwami as Maquia, Miyu Irino as Erial, Ai Kayano as Leilia, Hiroaki Hirata as Baro, Misaki Kuno as Medmel, Miyuki Sawashiro as Rashine, Rina Satou as Mido
Tomokazu Sugita as Isol, Yōko Hikasa as Tita, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Lang, and Yuuki Kaji as Clear.
Anime Limited previously picked up the UK rights.
Plot Concept: The people of Iorph have a lifespan of hundreds of years and maintain their teenage appearances for life, but when the peace of this town is shattered by those who want the secret to their longevity for themselves, a young girl named Maquia is forced to escape. Wandering the land alone, upon finding an orphaned baby she chooses to raise him, but as this boy grows up so the difference in their lifespans is thrown into ever-sharper relief.
