Cate Shortland Set For ‘Black Widow’ Directors Gig

1 min read

With word of meeting with over seventy people for the job and even looking at male directors at one point by not coming up with someone that clicked with the Marvel Studios style, it looks like a director is set for the Black Widow standalone film. It’s now being reported that Cate Shortland has signed on for the project after working on the Nazi drama film Lore previously. The Australian director doesn’t have a huge slate of films in her list but it factors into how Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige have worked previously when exploring projects like this, often to great success.

In fact, according to THR, Shortland doesn’t even have any agency representation since she’s been focused in Australia but the connect was strong with Scarlet Johansson who pushed for her based on how the female lead in Lore was handled.

The screenplay has Jac Shaeffer turning in the most recent script for it and is supposed takes place before the events of the first Avengers film back in 2012.
