What They Say:
The year is 1555, the middle of the Warring States period, and one young man holds on to a very big dream. That young man, known as an empty-headed fool, is none other than Oda Nobunaga. Enchanted by his dream, a certain young girl who admires Nobunaga swears that she will become his ninja one day. Nobunaga has one goal: to unify Japan by military might! Decorated by a colorful cast of characters, including the airheaded Kichou, the errand boy Hideyoshi, the tsundere Nene, the straight man Mitsuhide, and the half-dead Hanbei, this heavy-hitting wartime gag anime is about to begin!!

Putting Chidori front and center of an episode always works and given a mission the last time around meant getting her out into the world again. With the introduction of Kennyo the last time, this episode gives us the pink-haired Nyoshun, his wife, who is just a delight with her personality and presence. The threat Nobunaga represents is one that they’ll both be on the same page about, though it looks like she gets in some regular time beating him p. For Nobunaga, he’s still looking for the right way to make his way west and that circles around to seeing Chidori excitedly in Ikko and looking to sample some of the religious aspects going on. Her first sighting of Kennyo is delightful as is the overall reverence from the crowd that really places him on a pedestal, explaining away why he can get away with much.

In Summary:
Kennyo’s making an impact on Chidori as some of what he’s saying really speaks to her and plays to the guilt that she feels for all that she’s killed over the years. She ends up in his thrall pretty easily which makes for a challenge but I like the balance we get between her and what Kennyo and Nyoshun are up to in figuring out the right way to deal with what Nobunaga represents. Once the full introductions are made it’s going to be even more amusing, I’m sure.
