TOKYOPOP has picked up another manga series for release in 2019 with the acquisition of the Yuri Kuma Arashi work from Akiko Morishima. The series ran for three volumes in Japan from 2014 to 2016 and TOKYOPOP is bringing out the first volume on January 22nd, 2019 priced at $12.99 per volume.

Funimation streamed, licensed, and released the anime series in North America. Check out our review of the anime series.

The anime series was directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara with Tomohiro Furukawa as the assistant director at Silver Link while Etsuko Sumimoto worked on the character design adaptation from the original manga by Akiko Morishima that began in February 2015. Debuting in January 2015, the series Japanese cast includes Miho Arakawa as Ginko Yurishiro, Yoshiko Ikuta as Ruru Yurigazaki, Nozomi Yamane as Kureha Tsubaki, Yui Ogura as Sumika Izumino, Aoi yuki as Mitsuko Yurizono, Konomi Yurikawa, Kikuko Inoue as Yuri-Ka Hakonaka, Aya Endo as Reia Tsubaki and Yōko Hikasa as Kaoru Harishima. It also has a few men in the cast with Junichi Suwabe as Life Sexy, Mitsuki Saiga as Life Cool and Kazutomi Yamamoto as Life Beauty.

Plot concept: In a world divided between humans and hyper-intelligent, man-eating bears, Kureha attends an all-girls school and holds onto a simple wish—to spend the rest of her life with her classmate and soul mate, Sumika. But after a secret rendezvous ends in tragedy, Kureha vows to never back down on her love and put a bullet in any bear she meets.

As she plots her revenge, the bear-attack body count begins to rise and two strange girls transfer into Kureha’s class. She doesn’t know it yet, but the girls who call themselves Ginko and Lulu are actually criminal bears in disguise! As they try to win Kureha’s heart , an army of high school girls gears up to go to war with all of bear-kind and anyone else who stands up for love. At this rate, getting the yuri seal of approval from an interdimensional tribunal of cool, beautiful, sexy judges is going to be the least of their troubles.
