After the Valentine’s Day episode and competition, the show brings us back to our two title characters once again. With it being the girls’ birthdays, they’re actually more interested in doing something for their brother since he takes care of them so well. Part of this comes from the fact that he seemingly forgot their birthday, which makes them feel sad, but also realizing just how much he does for them and not wanting to make him feel bad. It’s a nice little bit of maturity in its own way but it’s no surprise that he has a surprise party waiting for them when they get home from work later. He’s a good guy through and through in classic anime form so it works nicely see how he sets things just right for them and derives pleasure just from them being happy.

In Summary:
I’ve found Alice or Alice to work better when it’s just the two sisters and their brother and this episode doesn’t dissuade me of that at all. There’s a quieter approach to this episode and some nice stuff with the girls in how they handle what they think is happening but it’s all pretty easily telegraphed. Where it avoided the cliche is that they didn’t have everyone invited over for a party but instead kept it simple and small with the family, which made it feel a bit warmer and engaging.
