Frontier Works Reveals ‘Marmalade Boy’ Blu-ray Anime Box Set Packaging

3 min read

Frontier Works announced earlier this year the plan to bring the anime adaptation of Marmalade Boy out as a Blu-ray box set to tie into the interest through the live-action film. With the set out today we’ve now got a good look at the packaging itself as well, which definitely fits the show pretty nicely. Frontier Works previously brought out a DVD set back in 2012 and this new Blu-ray set, released on June 6th, 2018, is priced at 33,000 yen. It’ll have the TV series and movie on three discs where it’s not a high definition release but a Standard Definition release with a higher quality encoding – which can make a real difference between the space and authoring tools used. The set is in 480i and PCM stereo for an 1800-minute running time with extras that include the clean opening and closing along with promos and commercials and the like. A mini compilation CD is included with the theme song collection that’s about 20 minutes in length.

Discotek Media brought this out on DVD last year in North America with the first collection.

Based on the manga by Wataru Yoshizumi, the series is directed by Akinori Yabe from the series composition by Aya Matsui. Yoshihiko Umakoshi handled the character designs and was animated by Toei Animation.

The Japanese cast includes Jun-ichi Kanemaru as Ginta Suou, Kikuko Inoue as Anju Kitahara, Mariko Kouda as Miki Koishikawa, Ryotaro Okiayu as Yuu Matsuura, Shinichirou Ohta as Satoshi Miwa, Tohru Furuya as Shin’ichi Namura and Wakana Yamazaki as Meiko Akizuki.

The English cast includes Jack Aubree as Satoshi Miwa and Shin’ichi Namura, Kate Davis as Meiko Akizuki, Michael Lindsay as Yuu Matsuura, Michelle Ruff as Miki Koishikawa, Carrie Savage as Arimi Suzuki, Henry Banks as Kei Tsuchiya and Tara Platt as Jinny.

Plot concept: Miki Koishikawa’s parents have always been strange. While deeply caring for their daughter, they’re prone to wasteful spending, oversleeping, and even taking extravagant trips. And their latest trip to Hawaii has brought back something truly outrageous: love. Not for each other, but for a different couple entirely! With her parents planning to divorce and swap partners with the Matsuuras, Miki’s life is turned upside down with a new, highly abnormal family all living together in one house. To top it off, the Matsuuras have a son named Yuu exactly Miki’s age, and he’s too gorgeous for words. For better or for worse, this is Miki’s life now, but adjusting won’t be easy when jealous rivals and old flames enter the mix!
