‘Perfect Blue’ Ultimate Anime Edition Detailed

2 min read

Anime Limited delighted UK fans last fall with a limited but engaging theatrical run for Perfect Blue as part of its 20th-anniversary of the Satoshi Kon work. Now they’re moving forward with the Ultimate Edition home video release that has a lot of us North American fans envious. With dates still to be set, the Blu-ray release is being done from a brand new remaster of the film. It’ll include the soundtrack and a 380-page storyboard book that’s being translated into English. It’s expected that there’ll be more on-disc details revealed soon.

The title was previously released by Manga Entertainment in the UK and in North America but it’s been out of print for a few years and no Blu-ray release has been offered outside of Asia until Anime Limited brought it out in the UK back in 2013.

Plot Concept: In the world of make-believe… The price of fame… May not be worth the cost of identity…

Pop singer Mima Kirigoe looks forward to a bright new career when she quits her chart-topping trio to become an actress. When she lands a role in a sexually-charged murder mystery, Mima’s life begins to fall apart. Reality and hallucinations merge into a terrifying world where innocence is lost and dreams become nightmare.

Quickly descending into a dangerous state of paranoid delusions, Mima watches as Internet sites appear describing every intimate detail of her life. She is helpless and afraid as her associates are threatened and killed by a mysterious stalker.
