German distributor KSM Anime is getting ready for their June 21st, 2018 release of the first DVD and Blu-ray releases for Anti-Magic Academy: The 35th Test Platoon. With it just over a month away we now have our first trailer for it with the German dub cast and it works really well. The sets are pretty straightforward as they’ll have four episodes each as they come out with the first having promos and commercials as the extras.
The show was produced by Silver Link for the animation and was directed by Kosuke Kawamura with Tomoyuki Kawamura as the series director. The Japanese cast includes Yoshimasa Hosoya as Takeru Kusanagi, Reina Ueda as Ouka Ohtori, Rumi Ookubo as Usagi Saionji, Ryoko Shiraishi as Ikaruga Suginami, Kanae Ito as Mari Nikaido, Iori Nomizu as Lapis Lazuli, Koji Yusa as Haunted, Natsumi Yamada as Nagaru Hoshijiro, Shinichiro Miki as Sougetsu Ohtori and Chika Anzai as Kiseki Kusanagi.
The series is based on the light novels from Touki Yanagimi that ran from 2012 to 2016 with thirteen novels. The novels have a pretty good artist on them as well with Kippu, whose been involved in the illustrations for the No-Rin series as well that got an adaptation previously. A manga adaptation began back in late 2012 as well which is fairly standard practice for a lot of light novels these days.
Plot Concept: The story is set in the world the people with magical powers on the edge of ruin. The top of the military power has moved from swords to magic, then to guns now. AntiMagic Academy was founded to train inquisitors to crack down on the remaining threat of the magical powers. The protagonist Takeru Kusanagi is a student of the academy and belongs to the 35th test platoon, a scratch team of poor students. While having no talent for guns, he has studied to be an inquisitor with his only merit, kenjyutsu (swordsmanship). One day, Ouka Outori, a super elite student who has the license to witch-hunt, joins his platoon. She is nicknamed as “Calamity,” since she actually shot a criminal to death in the past. As the leader of the platoon, Takeru starts working with her on a mission to retrieve Magical Heritage.
