What They Say
The Student Council President is away, and the rest of the council will play…

Yumemi Yumemite is a super popular idol who’s a big hit in the indie scene. Not only is she a student at the Hyakkaou academy, but she’s also a member of the student council?! How will Yumeko fare in a gamble with an idol?

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Somehow Yumeko managed to outsmart Midari in their game of Russian Roulette and keep them both alive. But there is no rest for the wicked, and Yumeko is quickly sucked into another Student Council member challenge. This time from the head of the publicity committee, Yumemi. It proves to be a cool transition as Yumemi enters the story singing her hit song Russian Roulette of Love.

Yumemi is an interesting character in her two-faced personality. She is brilliant in her ability to manipulate the kids of her school fan club. Everything she does is geared to grow her budding career so she can launch her pro career with maximum success. However, Yumemi has a dark side hidden by her brilliant public façade. She hates her nerdy fans with every ounce of her being and it would likely destroy her young career if this revelation leaked to the public.

Yumemi is extremely confident in her ability to outperform Yumeko, and challenges her to a match to be attended by her fan club. This gamble is so different from anything thus far that even Yumeko’s friends doubt she has a snowball chance in hell of winning. If Yumeko wins, she gets a lot of money. If Yumeko loses, she has to join Yumemi as an idol duo and do anything Yumemi demands. Will the end of this volume find Yumeko singing duets for a living with Yumemi?

In Summary:
Kakegurui continues to be one of the more fun reads out there. It is a mixture of crazy gambling games, massive life-changing stakes, and wacky characters. I especially like that the smartest characters that wield the most power are female characters. The interesting variations to standard gambling games are just icing on the top. I especially like seeing new games that I had never heard of before. So, if you are considering giving this series a chance, don’t worry, the games are not the boring poker and gin rummy games your relatives play at family holidays.
