Seven seems to be an interesting number in this series. It has been seven years since Clare and the other survivors of Battle of the North disappeared from the world. In addition, there are seven total survivors from that battle. I do not know if this number theme will continue, but it is something I’ll keep my eye on.
Now that Clare and her companions have returned to the world, their first item of business is to learn the current structure of the Organization’s Claymore warriors. Who is the strongest? What is the situation with the Three Great Awakened Ones? However, what I personally want to know is what the hell happened to Raki? Surely, he is still alive, the reader was never shown a body, nor have we seen the kid for a long time.
Once the seven survivors have their answers, the book takes a cool path. First, we learn of a child Claymore that is more powerful than any before her. However, she is emotionally unstable and difficult to manipulate. Next, the author takes us back in time to see how one of the seven survivors, Miria, gained her single digit rank. The story is good as it examines the relationship between Miria and her close friend that entered the Organization at the same time. Another extra story follows Teresa of the Faint Smile. This story also delves into the relationships between Claymores. A cool idea in my book, before a Claymore loses control and becomes an Awakened One, she sends a black card with her name to the Claymore she wants to kill her. As you can imagine, sometimes the card goes to a friend for a mercy killing, but sometimes it goes to a rival in hopes of killing them before they lose all their humanity.
This good series always has me anticipating the next volume.
