What They Say
Tamaki, the rookie in the Security Police, is working as a bodyguard for Kagetora Sugou—the prime minister’s nephew. But Kagetora is acting more like a boyfriend than a boss. Will Tamaki let down her guard and accept his advances?

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Tamaki is sick and her crush, Natsu, comes over to look after her. Kagetora also makes an appearance and the two of them meet face to face. Kagetora immediately realizes Tamaki likes Natsu. While Tamaki defends why she likes Natsu, Kagetora quickly points out that Natsu doesn’t see Tamaki the way she sees him. Tamaki blows up at Kagetora, splashes tea on him and kicks him out. Both Kagetora and Tamaki are left feeling hurt.

Tamaki’s confidence is low, but she returns to work. Kagetora is his usual self and does things spontaneously, like kiss her out of the blue. It turns out he purposely did this in front of Natsu. Later Natsu tells Tamaki he saw her with Kagetora and announces he is glad she has found someone, because he is getting married. Heartbroken, Tamaki takes some time to think. Kagetora reaches out and after a night of drinking, she ends up staying over at his home.

Though nothing happens, Tamaki realizes she actually likes spending time with Kagetora too. A new employee though with ulterior motives gets close to Kagetora and tries to attack him. Seeing Kagetora injured forces old memories to surface when her younger sister drowned in the ocean and she couldn’t save her then either. She ends up spilling this dark memory to Kagetora, leaving things even more awkward between them. The next day Kagetora receives Tamaki’s resignation and when he goes after her, she’s already moved out of her home.

Kagetora tracks her down and many things come to light. While Tamaki thinks leaving Kagetora is for the best, Kagetora admits he’s been interested in her since high school. As he relays the memory of their meeting that Tamaki’ doesn’t remember, he says he appreciated her honesty and straightforwardness. Tamaki can’t resist Kagetora anymore and they seal their new relationship status with a kiss.

Tamaki and her younger brother are invited to live in Kagetora’s mansion, but Tamaki hasn’t forgotten that Kagetora already has a fiancée. She tells him that she won’t be his mistress, but Kagetora has already called off his arranged engagement. He puts all the puzzle pieces together and formally dismisses Tama from her bodyguard job and proposes. She accepts, and Tora decides to follow in the footsteps of his uncle the Prime Minister! In the end, Tamaki feels a bit lonely and misses her bodyguard duties and returns to Kagetora’s side.

In Summary:
This two-volume series comes to a conclusion in a quick and complete way. While long series can have their perks, simple and uncomplicated stories are enjoyable in their way. I like this josei series in a way that had a lot of the lovely eliminate that comprises josei and shojo, but with a tough character that can always be very feminine. It’s a treat to find a series that has so many good aspects to it. However, if you are looking for something deep, you’ll not find it here. It would, however, like to see a bit more of Tamaki and Kagetora’s married life. There is a short bonus comic, but nothing that gleams into their future.
