Chi Goes To A Waterfall

What They Say:
Chi is a sweet playful kitten, always full of energy. She gets milk from Yohei, and is relaxing at home, nice and full. As she searches around the house for something exciting, she comes across Yohei walking with a handful of rubber balls. The balls bounce everywhere as he drops them, and Yohei and Chi can’t get more excited. The day ends with Chi and the family making a great memory together.

Taking Chi out of her normal environment was definitely a plus the last time around as we got some good outdoors material as well as the family together as a whole. We’ve had smaller moments of that in the apartment but it’s not like they’re all together the whole time and the focus shifts with what Chi is doing. Here, we get Yohei getting some good time in going for what he wants while also having Chi doing her thing in exploring and getting into things. With this one putting those two together for a bit of an adventure, the adults giving him a chance to grow and explore on his own with Chi, you know there’s a lot more trouble on the way.

And obviously, it doesn’t take long for them to get into just that kind of trouble, such as coming across a place where a snake is making its presence know. Chi’s having fun establishing dominance and it turns into a lot of back and forth until the snake wins, which is just great to see how she backs down and it forces Yohei to step up and grow up a bit. A lot of the fun is just seeing Yohei and Chi together on an adventure, such as crossing the water on the rocks, and the kind of silly joy that comes from it on their way to Maple Falls. The two have a great bond that’s been built over time and the staircase sequence with all the steps that tucker out Chi just reinforces it ever so well with a way that makes you smile, particularly with the heartbeat element.

In Summary:
This little extended adventure works well and the Maple Falls aspect of it made me smile. While I do think they could have played with what Yohei’s parents were up to a bit more since I obviously thought something different at first, but it’s a good family show and it handles it just as you’d expect. It balances the cast as a whole even while making this episode all about Chi and Yohei, something that was needed in general. This is another cute and smile-inducing episode and that’s exactly what I was hoping for from it.
