What They Say:
Humanity’s battle of many years with the kaiju, giant monsters, has finally come to an end. Now that Earth has entered an age of peace, girls with the souls of kaiju have begun to appear, giving them the ability to transform into kaiju. They are known as the Kaiju Girls, and this is the powerful, transient, beautiful, and at times easygoing story of the strange fate these girls bear.
The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
The cuteness of a mother Kaiju Girl the last time around definitely delight and this one has some fun here as Miku now finds herself unable to participate in her upcoming fight because of an injury that has landed her in the hospital. The girls are intent on finding out what happened, however, and Pigmon reveals that it was Guts that attacked her and we get a cute “scary” retelling of events. That doesn’t sit well with everyone else, Agira in particular, and it sets a new tension between the girls while they try to figure out the validity of the claim. Agira and Zetton have a surprisingly good conversation about it that leaves me liking both of them more and on the path to trying to figure out the truth because it’s the right thing to do.
In Summary:
A little more trouble is coming down the road for the girls as we move into the back half of the season and as things get a bit more serious before the finale. The show has definitely worked better for me this season than the first as there’s more cute elements and a better feeling of a sliver of a story in action to tie it all together. I may not remember who everyone is since I’m not much of a kaiju fan in the general sense but I’m enjoying the silly moments of the show and how it balances it with a couple of more serious ones.
