The options for binging have grown a bit this weekend as Crunchyroll has added the Funimation series Inari Kon Kon to its service thanks to their partnership. The single-cour anime series is available in its original Japanese language with English subtitles while the dub remains at Funimation. Availability for it is a bit better than some other catalog titles as it’s open to viewers in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, South Africa, Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark. and the Netherlands.
The series is based on the 2010 manga series of the same name by Morohe Yoshida. The manga series is the first full ongoing title from the creator after doing the Star Ocean 2 Second Evolution adaptation. The series was directed by Toru Takahashi, who has largely done just episode direction and storyboards over the years. Of note, he was an episode director on ten episodes of Revolutionary Girl Utena and did some work on Azumanga Daioh as well. The series was adapted and scripted by Touko Machida who has a very extensive list of credits across numerous shows from Karneval to Lucky Star and some Sayuki material. The animation is being done by Production IMS, marking this as their first full on production after assisting on Fantasista Doll and Mushibugyo.
Plot concept: Inari is a sweet and shy middle school girl with a HUGE crush on Tanbabashi, one of the cutest guys in her grade. But she’s not smooth enough to tell him how she feels, and every time she tries things just keep getting worse! That is, until one day she saves an injured fox struggling on a riverbank. To Inari’s surprise, the fox turns out to be the familiar of Uka, a beautiful goddess. As thanks, Uka grants Inari the power to shape-shift, and Inari uses her newfound powers to attempt to win over Tanbabashi. Unfortunately, love isn’t as simple as changing forms, and to make matters worse, the spirit world is none too pleased about Inari’s divine powers!
