Discotek Media Sets ‘Library War’ Blu-ray Anime Release

2 min read

Discotek Media has another series that they’ve had for some time making its way to a new format as the Library War TV series is now set for a Blu-ray release. After bringing it out on DVD previously, the distributor has set a February 27th, 2018 release date. Details (and retail solicitations) will come later for it. It’ll be in its original Japanese language with English subtitles similar to the DVD release.

The show aired in the spring of 2008 and produced an OVA and a movie after that. Discotek released is in its original Japanese language with English subtitles only as a complete collection last year. The series was directed by Hamana Takayuki based on scripts by Kenji Konuta and character designs by Satoru Nakamura, who also served as the animation director. The property is based on the light novel series by Hiro Arikawa that ran for four volumes between 2006 and 2007. A fifteen-volume manga adaptation with artwork by Kiir Yumi started in late 2007 and ran until February 2015.

Plot concept: Toshokan Sensou tells the story of Kasahara Iku, the first woman to join the Library Task Force. In the near future in Japan, the Media Enhancement Law has been forced upon the population censoring all books and media. To counter this, the Library Defense Force was created. To protect themselves against the Media Enhancement Law Commission, all major libraries are fully equipped with a military Task Force, who take it upon themselves to protect the books and freedom of media of the people. This anime follows Iku and her fellow soldiers as they protect various special books and artifacts from the oppression of the Media Enhancement Law Commission. A love story, war story, and comedy all rolled into one.
