Pony Canyon headed back to the 1980’s with the announcement of two Blu-ray box sets for the High School! Kimengumi anime series earlier this year. It’ll be an HD remaster with color correction going on and noise removal as well as other cleanup plans from the work. The 86 episode series received two box sets released on the same day, November 2nd, 2017, pricer at 27,500 yen each. And I’ve been hoping for the past month that we’d see decent artwork for it but there’s nothing beyond the small previews available on just a handful of sites, so it is what it is, sadly.
Directed by Hiroshi Fukutomi, the series had Hatsuki Tsuji and Hiroshi Kanezawa on board with the character designs with Studio Comet handling the animation production. The Japanese cast includes Issei Futamata as Kiyoshi, Kaneto Shiozawa as Dai Monoboshi, Naoki Tatsuta as Jin Daima, Shigeru Chiba as Rei Ichido, and Tesshō Genda as Gō Reietsu.
Plot Concept: This is the story of five students who make up a crazy and unique group (the gang of the funny faces) and, in an incredible twist of luck, they befriend the cutest girl in school. Of course, they will enter into competition with many groups in their school, where teachers are tricky and sometimes clueless, where they can still defy the laws of nature to win sports tournaments and where you can still be childish. Anything could happen in this high school.
