Things continue to take interesting turns when it comes to the DC Entertainment films under the Warner Bros. umbrella with Shazam shaping up over at New Line Films. This film is set for an April 5th, 2019 release but that’s likely fairly fluid even as we’re now getting the casting underway/ We previously had the lead with Zachary Levi joining the project as the title character and now his “normal” younger form has been cast.
Taking on that role is that of Asher Angel who will play Billy Batson. Angel currently stars in the Disney Channel series Andi Mack.
The character of Batson derives his powers by saying the phrase, “Shazam” which is an acronym of the ancient world gods and historical figures Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury, which them transforms him into the adult form.
The film is being directed by David F. Sandberg who had great success last year with Lights Out and this year’s Annabell: Creation, which made $303 million worldwide on a $15 million budget.
