Star Trek DiscoveryThe first season of Star Trek Discovery is moving right along and it’s certainly generating some interesting dialogue on it from those that have bought into the streaming service from CBS. For the rest of us we’re just waiting and waiting. But that wait will now include a second season that has been given the green light, which is no surprise considering the time it takes to work special effects and sets for the show. No timeline has been revealed for when to expect the second season but it is at least on the way.

“In just six episodes, Star Trek: Discovery has driven subscriber growth, critical acclaim and huge global fan interest for the first premium version of this great franchise,” said Marc DeBevoise, President and Chief Operating Officer, CBS Interactive. “This series has a remarkable creative team and cast who have demonstrated their ability to carry on the Star Trek legacy. We are extremely proud of what they’ve accomplished and are thrilled to be bringing fans a second season of this tremendous series.”

The cast includes Sonequa Martin-Green as Rainsford, Doug Jones as Saru, Anthony Rapp as Stamets, James Frain as Sarek, Terry Serpico as Anderson, Maulik Pancholy as Nambue, Sam Vartholomeos as Connor, Michelle Yeoh as Georgiou, Shazad Latif as Kol, Chris Obi as T’Kuvma and Mary Chieffo as L’Rell.

Alex Kurtzman will serve as executive producer for the new Star Trek TV series. Kurtzman and Heather Kadin will serve as executive producers.

Plot concept: Set roughly ten years before the events of the original Star Trek, the series follows the crew of the USS Discovery as they discover new worlds and civilizations while exploring the franchise’s signature contemporary themes. The season-long storyline revolves around “an incident and an event in Star Trek history that’s been talked about but never been explored”.
