The latest rankings have come in from Japan for the home video releases out during the week ending October 1st, 2017 and it’s another interesting week. As we’ve seen many times over the year, feature films are what are driving big numbers more often than not and the arrival of Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale is the latest. On the Blu-ray side, it did 89,000 units in the limited edition for and another 10,000 in the regular edition. The DVD side is weaker as one would expect but it still did just under 20,000 limited edition units and 7,000 regular edition ones. Suffice to say, it’s a great start that will add more over time, especially with new projects coming up next year.
We also get the Kuroko’s Basketball: Last Game special which moves about 31,000 units combined across the formats as well. And we also get some good numbers on Zaregoto, which is no surprise even if volumes are delayed.
We don’t get much in the way of new summer series charting this week on Blu-ray but Princess Principal hits 10th with 5,400 units while New Game!! hits 11th with 3,800 units on Blu-ray. We do like seeing that the second Dunbine box set did bit numbers at 2,100 units at a very high price.
