Brenton Thwaites Boards ‘Titans’ As Dick Grayson

Dick Grayson RobinIn an interesting move, the upcoming Titans live-action TV series has added Brenton Thwaites to take on the role of Dick Grayson. The materials put out for the casting indicates a Robin push instead of Nightwing which is certainly interesting but opens the show up if it does well to expand him into that Nightwing persona down the line. Thwaites has been doing several movies over the last few years including the most recent Pirates of the Carribean as well as THe Giver and Maleficent.

“Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC universe, and it wasn’t easy to find him but we have,” says Titans Executive Producer Geoff Johns. “Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman’s former protege and the Titans future leader. We’re extremely lucky he’s chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character.”

According to how DC Comics is presenting the news, “Dick Grayson, he’s described by the show as having once been Batman’s famous sidekick, Robin. After Dick’s parents were murdered during their high-flying circus act, Bruce Wayne became Dick’s legal guardian and trained him to fight crime beside him. But after years as part of the Dynamic Duo, Dick struggled to find his place outside the Dark Knight’s shadow. Finally striking out as his own man, he emerges as a leader, mentor and father figure to his new family, the Titans.”

Previously announced cast includes Teagan Croft as Raven and Anna Diop as Starfire.

The series will be done by Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter and Warner Bros TV, which means there’s a very good chance it’ll connect with The CW shows to some degree as Berlanti’s projects have worked to keep that a part of things.

Plot Concept: Titans follows a group of young soon-to-be superheroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In the action-adventure series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes that includes Starfire, Raven and others.
