TC Entertainment is stepping into the past a bit by bringing out the 1993 anime series Jungle no Ouja Taa-chan on Blu-ray. The show is being produced in two Blu-ray sets with each one coming with 25 episodes priced at 25,000 yen each. The sets are working from a new HD master from the positive film with this incarnation. Directed by Hitoshi Nanba, it’s based on the manga by Masaya Tokuhiro and features character designs by Rie Nishino and Yuka Kudo. Group TAC handled the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Goro Kishitani as Taa-chan, Kappei Yamaguchi as Etekichi, Kotono Mitsuishi as Helen, Kouji Ishii as Anabebe, Miki Narahashi as Jene, and Nobuyuki Hiyama as Pedro.
Plot Concept: Ta-chan is the king of jungle. He was abandoned in savanna, and has been raised by a chimpanzee, Etekichi. He has a dearest wife, Jane who used to be a top model in New York, but now she looks… Anyway, to protect animals from poachers, Ta-chan is fighting against them with his disciple, Pedro, and a master of Chinese martial arts, Ryo.
