With a limited bit of streaming on both Hulu and The Anime Network several years ago, the Mirai Keisatsu Urashiman TV series is now up for a new distributor in Japan and a new Blu-ray box set coming. Scheduled for an October 25th, 2017 debut, it’ll be priced at 28,000 yen and have the full run of the series. The only extra listed at the moment is a newly edited 24-page booklet.
The series originally aired in Japan back in 1983 and ran for fifty-two episodes. It got a new Blu-ray box set release a couple of years ago as well. The show has a pretty decent staff to it with Koichi Mashimo directing it while Seiji Okuda handled individual episode direction based on scripts by Haruya Yamazaki, Hirohisa Soda, Kenji Terada and Sukehiro Tomita.
The series stars Michitaka Kobayashi as Ryuu Urashima, Akira Kamiya as Claude, Eiji Maruyama as Hyura, Kaneto Shiozawa as Ludvich, Keiko Yokozawa as Sophia, Masako Katsuki as Mya, Mayumi Tanaka as Jitanda, Tesshô Genda as Stinger Wolf and Tooru Oohira as Inspector Gondou.
Plot Concept: In 1983, a young man on the run from the police finds himself mysteriously transported to the year 2050. With no memories and newly developed superhuman powers, he finds himself recruited to join the Neo Tokyo Mobile Police Unit in order to help them take down a vicious crime syndicate known as Necrime. But will this man, now known as Ryuu Urashima, be able to take down the Necrime and find his way back to the past? Or will he be trapped in the future forever?
