‘Silver and Black’ Release Date Scheduled

2 min read

Silver and BlackSony revealed a bit ago that they’re intending to bring out several Spider-Man related film, one of which is a Silver Sable and Black Cat film that is now formally being called Silver and Black. The plan for the film is for likely an early 2019 release and was previously revealed that Gina Prince-Blythwood will be directing the film with production set to start this fall. She’s now out talking about the project a bit by saying:

With everything slowly coming together, Sony has now set the date for it (and several other non-genre films) with a firm February 8th, 2019 premiere. The film is still existing outside of the MCU realm proper so there won’t be anything related to Spider-Man in it but instead will just focus on these characters and their stories.

Prince-Blythwood has several films under her belt with the 2008 film The Secret Life of Bees that she wrote and directed, as well as 2014’s Beyond the Light. She wrote the 2017 film Before I Fall, which adapted the novel of the same name. She also has some experience in the Marvel world as she directed the pilot for Cloak & Dagger for the 2018 TV series on Freeform.

The project is being written by Chris Yost, who worked on the Thor: Ragnarok screenplay for Marvel Studios. No actors have been attached to either role yet. While the characters have had multiple animated and videogame appearances, the non-costumed version of Black Cat made an appearance in Amazing Spider-Man 2 as played by Felicity Jones. The intent was for the character to suit up in the third film that did not happen. It’s not expected that Jones will reprise the role.
