Ian McShane Boards ‘Hellboy’ Reboot

2 min read

Ian McShaneWe learned back in May that the studio Millennium is bringing the Hellboy franchise out with a reboot path set and cast and was working to bring director Neil Marshall of The Descent on for it with David Harbour of Stranger Things set for the title role. Dark Horse Entertainment, which has published the comics for creator Mike Mignola since the early 90′s, is on board with Mike Richardson as a producer.

Now a new piece of casting has arrived with Ian McShane boarding the project as Professor Trevor “BRoom” Bruttenholm, which was played in the previous film by John Hurt. With it being a key role in how the property works there’s a lot to like in this. Additionally, some story concept was revealed with, The new story sees the hero squaring off against a medieval sorceress who seeks to destroy humankind.” And that gives hope for it not being an origin story.

The working title for the new film is Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen with a script by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden, and Mike Mignola himself. It looks like nobody from past productions will be involved in this reboot in terms of creative/acting.

Original concept: From his apocalyptic origin in World War II England to the modern-day case of the sole survivor of a doomed Arctic expedition, Hellboy must battle vampire frog creatures and worse in his debut miniseries.
