The latest rankings have come in for what’s selling in the home video market for the week ending July 30th and this was one of the most anticipated weeks in a long time, and one that we’ll likely be talking about for awhile. With Kimi no na wa having done fantastic box office numbers, the home video side just blew the doors off things. On Blu-ray, between three editions, the film did about 421,000 units. It also did another 216,000 units on DVD. This is just a powerhouse. A combined 639,000 units has already moved this into the 19th best selling animated movie in Japan, which includes Disney films like Frozen. That film, but contrast, did 1.5 million in its first week but was riding a different cultural zeitgeist.
The rest of the week has some decent numbers in normal terms with the first Saekano Flat hitting at 9000 units while Katsugeki: Touken Ranbu eked out a 6300 unit debut. The first Dunbine box set nabbed an impressive 2,000 units while the second Tales of Zestiria the X box did a strong 2,800 units when you factor in price.
And, on an odd but amusing note, Totoro finally broke the 100,000 mark on DVD this week with another 763 units sold.
