2 min read

Star Trek Discover 5-17With plans for the first episode to air as a special on CBS in the fall before moving to their streaming service on September 24th, 2017, CBS has brought out their SDCC tailer for the Star Trek: Discovery series. It’s still unclear just how well this show will do since it’ll be on a pay service for CBS but it continues to be worth noting that Netflix funded a good portion of this as they have all the international rights outside of the US. The trailer is cut to showcase action and draw viewers in from there but it’s likely to be just a good portion of what sets things up in the opening episode rather than the series as a whole being all about the action.

The show has also had its order increased to fifteen episodes from the original thirteen and there will be a Talking Trek after show put in as well.

The cast includes Sonequa Martin-Green as Rainsford, Doug Jones as Saru, Anthony Rapp as Stamets, James Frain as Sarek, Terry Serpico as Anderson, Maulik Pancholy as Nambue, Sam Vartholomeos as Connor, Michelle Yeoh as Georgiou, Shazad Latif as Kol, Chris Obi as T’Kuvma and Mary Chieffo as L’Rell.

Alex Kurtzman will serve as executive producer for the new Star Trek TV series. Kurtzman and Heather Kadin will serve as executive producers.

Plot concept: Set roughly ten years before the events of the original Star Trek, the series follows the crew of the USS Discovery as they discover new worlds and civilizations while exploring the franchise’s signature contemporary themes. The season-long storyline revolves around “an incident and an event in Star Trek history that’s been talked about but never been explored”.
