TC Entertainment is digging back into the Tatsunoko classics once again as they’ve pulled out the 1976 series Gowapper 5 Godam, which originally ran for thirty-six episodes. The series is getting two Blu-ray collections that are struck from new HD telecines that will arrive on September 29th, 2017 and October 27th, 2017 priced at 20,000 yen each. No extras are solicited with the releases at this time.
The series was directed by Hisayuki Toriumi based on the original work by Tatsuo Yoshida. Yoshitaka Amano handled the character designs while Kunio Okiawara handled the mechanical designs. It was animated by Tatsunoko Productions.
The Japanese cast includes Terumi Niki as Youko Misaki, Iemasa Kayumi as Godam, Kaneta Kimotsuki as Daikichi Kameyama, Kiyoshi Komiyama as Goemon Koishikawa, Sachiko Chijimatsu as Norisuke Kawaguchi, and Yoshito Yasuhara as Go Tsunami.
Plot Concept: Five youths from Edo City explore a strange rocky island and discover the mecha that Doctor Hoarai had been creating in order to resist the impending attack by a race of subterranean rock people.
Doctor Hoarai was ridiculed by the scientific community for his predictions that such an attack would take place. The youths decide to join the doctor (who was dead but had transferred his mind into a computer) in piloting the vehicles and protecting Earth. The Gowapper 5 Gordam team is born! With the aid of the giant fighting robot Gordam, the Gowapper team under the leadership of Youko Misaki must face the hordes of the inhuman subterranean people.
