Re-Creators-Episode-14The only thing scarier than the government being in charge of your entertainment is the fate of the world relying on the cooperation of eccentric artists.

What They Say:
People have created many stories.Joy, sadness, anger, deep emotion. Stories stir up emotion and captivate. However, those emotions are nothing more than the feelings of a spectator. What if the characters in the stories had their own”will”?In their eyes, are we, the creators of the stories, like gods?Revolution for our world.Punishment for the land of the gods.Re:CREATORS.Everyone becomes a Creator.

We’re past Meteora’s silly little recap and onto the proper second half of the series. Well, it’s actually less than 41% left, but all indications are that the remainder of the series will all be the endgame, so it’s fine for it to take up a bit less time than the series thus far. The government-mandated production committee is formed to create the greatest crossover ever, with the hidden agenda of saving the world. Kikuchihara might want to look into working in the industry after all this is said and done, since she seems far better at planning these kinds of events than anyone she brings in to discuss the plan with. They’re mostly the people who will actually be doing the legwork when all is said and done, though, so they’re not too happy about having to put their work on hold to get this project done in such a short time frame. Then again, considering they’re already in this industry, this kind of demand should hardly sound foreign. Now realistically, they’d probably end up cranking out something that looks like garbage because they’re too rushed, but I get the feeling we don’t have to worry about that. Still, there are bits of commentary from those who know what it’s really like sneaking into these discussions, as has been the case many times.

Still, this kind of plan involving the logistics and the high-level overview is the relatively easy part. Actually getting the main creators behind each property to put their heads together and come up with an idea that will believably allow all of their worlds to come together and conquer Altair. These are artists after all, and that means two things. One is that they have pride in their creations that can’t be compromised so easily, especially when their fans’ acceptance is crucial to succeeding. The other is that they create very different kinds of stories and they’re not going to accept someone else’s idea of how their creations will operate easily. That pride comes into play in a less positive light as some feel that their required collaborators don’t have the best solutions in mind and don’t want to take a back seat to someone else leading the charge. All of these scenes likely have some place in reality for the people depicting them, although they are resolved in fairly simplistic anime-moving-along-the-plot fashion. This isn’t Shirobako, so the priority is never going to be delving into the specifics of creating this art; it’s just a necessary step to get back to the flashy action. There’s still time for more internal conflict, though, so we shall see.

Finally, it wouldn’t be a second cour without some throwing some new characters into the mix, which also serves to remind us that the Creations are generally the focal characters over their Creators. The first one our team nabs may not be the one that was teased earlier, but it does indicate that there will be several, and that we should get some more time with them next time.

In Summary:
The plans for the big crossover are underway, and the concept continues to be just as silly. Some of it is intentional, but it does cheapen some of the intended drama when you think about what’s actually going on. More focus on Creators for a change is nice, but definitely only in limited bits.
